Thanks to a $35,000 grant from the Queensland Government, the Carindale Cougars Junior AFL Club will now be hitting new goals at their newly installed goal posts in Belmont State School.
According to Carindale Cougars Junior AFL Club President Evan Marshall, the grant has allowed them to purchase two new sets of goal posts for the club.
“Because we are based here at Belmont State School, this grant will benefit the school community as well as our little club.” Mr Marshall said.
“We’re always looking for new ways to improve the quality of our facilities for our young players and the Carindale community,” he added.

Mr Marshall said the installation of the posts, including all necessary safety padding, was overseen by the AFL Queensland.
Aside from the new goal posts, the grant will also fund more improvements to the club.
“Our priority was to first install the goal posts and after that, we’ll look to new ventures like new lighting for the oval,” said Mr Marshall.

Member for Chatsworth Steve Minnikin MP said the government funding will provide the club and school with better facilities that will help in promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
“It will be great to see these new goal posts get put to good use and I hope it will inspire members of our community to get involved in sports,” Mr Minnikin said.
Belmont State School has been home to the Carindale Cougars Junior AFL Club for 24 years.
Belmont State School Principal Anthony Palmer said, “The Cougars have been long-time supporters of our school and we are long-time supporters of the Cougars.”
“With many Belmont State School students members of the club, it’s great to see grants like this benefiting both our school and the wider community.”
The installation of the new goal posts was completed on 10 July 2018. They will be ready for all Cougars to test when their training resumes on Thursday, 19 July 2018.
